What information does BISL collect?

What does BISL do with the information collected?

  • to verify information which you provide, to conduct any necessary investigations and to prevent fraudulent claims;
  • to enable insurers to conduct the searches on the relevant registers such as the Claims and Underwriting Exchange Register and the Theft Register;
  • to add such information onto the relevant databases such as the Motor Insurance Database which may be used by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency and Driver and Vehicle Licensing Northern Ireland for the purpose of Electronic Vehicle Licensing or to pass such information to the police;
  • to enable searches to be conducted on publicly available registers such as the Electoral Register, County Court Judgements and bankruptcy registers;
  • to pass information about you to us (see "What do we do with the information we collect" above); and
  • to enable credit reference agencies to conduct any relevant searches.

BISL and the other companies processing your data for the purposes mentioned above may from time to time need to undertake some of the processing in countries outside of the European Economic Area which may not have equivalent laws to protect your personal data.
