Company News from yesinsurance
29 May 2007yesinsurance.co.uk launches green driving scheme for employees
The scheme, which is being paid for by yesinsurance.co.uk and applies to both the company and private vehicles, covers employees for both corporate and personal travel.
Offsetting payments, which are geared individually to the size and type of cars driven by each member of staff, are to be made by yesinsurance.co.uk to the carbon offsetting organization, Climatesure.
These funds are then channelled into energy efficiency projects which are designed to reduce the CO2 emissions by an amount equal to the emissions produced by each employee’s driving.
“As all of our business is conducted online, we only have a small number of employees, so the cost of running the scheme is relatively small,” said Paul Purdy, of yesinsurance.co.uk.
“However, the principle of employers taking action to reduce the impact that both corporate and private motoring have on the environment is one that we would like to see more organisations adopting,” he said.
yesinsurance.co.uk is now looking to expand the hybrid scheme, which was launched last year, to include other types of energy-efficient vehicles.
The hybrid car insurance scheme which is currently being run consists of a cashback scheme which provides a £50 incentive for owners of hybrid vehicles who take out motor insurance with yesinsurance.co.uk. Half of the incentive is paid back to the driver, whilst the other half is paid into carbon offsetting projects via Climatesure.
