27 July 2009 Sliding fuel tax may help van drivers reduce costs

ABD: Sliding fuel tax could help drivers cut costs Light commercial vehicle owners who have made the effort to search for cheap van insurance only to see the cost of petrol and diesel start to rise may agree something needs to be done to protect road users from increasing costs.

The Association of British Drivers has claimed the government should think about introducing sliding fuel tax.

It explained a system where statutory charges went down as the cost of oil increased would help to keep prices stable and provide a boost to the economy.

The group said it was time the excessive financial burden placed on the shoulders of UK motorists was reduced.

Commenting on the current situation, environment spokesman Paul Biggs stated: "The whole government policy is aimed at attacking ... [vehicle] use by making it more expensive."

Meanwhile, drivers looking to cut costs may find buying cheap van insurance online can make a significant difference to their overall expenses.
