21 July 2009 Drink-drivers may jeopardise more than cheap car insurance

Motorists warned against drink-driving Losing access to cheap car insurance may be the least of a motorist's problems if they drink-drive, if the comments of a road safety group are anything to go by.

Brake has highlighted the extent of the problem caused by people who get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol, ahead of a campaign designed to tackle the issue.

National Road Safety Week is to take place between November 23rd and 29th and will be sponsored by breathalyser company AlcoSense.

Both organisations warned motorists who would not deliberately break the law need to be wary about driving the morning after consuming alcohol.

They explained it is quite possible to still be unfit to be at the wheel even after a good night's sleep.

Spokesperson for Brake Katie Shephard commented: "Shockingly, one in six deaths on our roads is caused by drivers over the legal limit."

As well as struggling to secure cheap car insurance, people with a conviction for being in control of a vehicle with excessive levels of alcohol in their system may receive a ban or even a jail sentence.
