15 July 2009 Home insurance may be crucial after Liverpool burglar is jailed

Home insurance could minimise the impact of a burglary Residents would be well advised to make sure their home insurance policies are up to date after a Liverpool burglar targeted several properties in the space of two days.

Kieran Fallon, from Huyton, tried to kick down the back door of one house in Lancashire and made off with a Volkswagen Golf from another address, the Lancashire Evening Post reports.

His crime spree then continued the following day as he stole a BMW 1 Series and threatened a ten-year-old girl to obtain the keys to a Renault Megane, before he was eventually caught by police.

Mr Fallon has now been sentenced to six years in jail and Lancashire Police Superintendent Bill McMahon hopes the punishment will deter other burglars.

"This sentence sends out a clear message to anyone involved in burglary and car thefts that we are committed to tackling this type of offence and determined to bring these offenders to justice," he commented.

The news comes after the Association of British Insurers found that almost one in four Brits have cancelled their home insurance policies in a bid to save money during the recession, leaving themselves at risk of damage or burglary.
