The number of motorists searching for comprehensive car insurance for Ford models may have increased recently, if the comments of the manufacturer are anything to go by.

According to the company, the government's vehicle scrappage incentive scheme has provided a significant boost to its business.

It added its small autos have proved particularly popular with those taking part in the programme.

The Fiesta has secured most orders under the initiative, followed by the Ka.

People taking advantage of the £2,000 discount can drive away in the first of these models for £8,595.

Nigel Sharp, managing director of the manufacturer, commented: "Ford has taken a healthy share of scrappage business considering the limited number of models we have in the budget area, which represents the vast majority of these sales."

In total, the company has received more than 12,000 orders through the scheme.

Meanwhile, drivers who have saved money by taking part in the cash for bangers initiative may find they can make further cutbacks by purchasing cheap car insurance.
