03 July 2009 Car insurance customers 'should protect no-claims bonus'

Biba: Drivers should think about protecting no-claims bonus Motorists may benefit from protecting the no-claims bonus on their comprehensive car insurance, it has been suggested.

According to the British Insurance Brokers' Association, it is worthwhile spending a bit more up front if it means drivers will not lose their discount in the event of an accident.

It acknowledged some people were trying to make cutbacks in the face of the recession, but the group claimed other factors aside from the cost of annual premiums need to be taken into account when buying cover.

The organisation stated individuals who fail to protect their no-claims bonus could live to regret it in the event of an accident.

Steve Foulsham, technical services manager, said: "Some companies will charge a little bit more at the outset ... but the advantages if you have to claim far outweigh the cost that is there initially."

Meanwhile, motorists may find they can still find cheap comprehensive car insurance that offers this benefit, if they search online.
