02 July 2009 Car insurance policies 'may change'

A specialist type of car insurance policy may save drivers cash More car insurance providers may start offering a specialist type of policy that some drivers will probably not have come across before, it has been suggested.

The British Insurance Brokers' Association explained cover is available from a number of companies that allows motorists to qualify for cheaper premiums, if they agree to certain conditions.

For example, the group stated, if someone consented to stay off the road between 23:00 and 05:00, they may be offered a better deal.

The organisation predicted this sort of cover may become more popular in the coming years.

Steve Foulsham, technical services manager, stated: "One or two insurers have been in this market anyway, but it could be that this could start to get some more impetus perhaps going forward."

However, he acknowledged certain people may object to having their movements tracked.

Meanwhile, people with a relatively low-value car may find third party insurance is a cost-effective option.
