01 July 2009 Checking tyres could be crucial for third party insurance holders
Third party car insurance customers who appreciate how expensive an accident can be may want to check their tyres before taking to the road this summer.According to TyreSafe, drivers who do so significantly reduce the likelihood their auto will breakdown or be involved in a collision.
It suggested motorists should check air pressure, tread depth and for general wear and tear.
Chairman Stuart Jackson explained: "Motorway gridlock is a common sight in the summer months and one that could be avoided if more motorists made time for straightforward tyre safety checks."
By ensuring there is sufficient tread depth, people were advised they could cut their chances of skidding in wet conditions.
Meanwhile, pumping up under-inflated tyres can make handling more responsive.
Drivers with third party insurance who end up causing an accident will probably find their provider only covers the cost of damage to other vehicles involved in the collision.
