26 June 2009 New tyre safety website may benefit van drivers

Commercial vehicle drivers offered advice on tyre safety A new web-based facility could help drivers protect their cheap van insurance premiums.

TyreSafe has added a section to its online site that offers advice on tyre safety for commercial vehicles.

Information is designed to be easily accessible and is aimed at fleet bosses and inspectors, as well as workshop managers and drivers.

TyreSafe claimed the resource should prove useful, especially in light of the Health and Safety Offences Act that came into force at the beginning of the year.

As result of the new legislation, businesses can be fined up to £20,000 for having dangerous tyres.

Stuart Jackson, chairman of TyreSafe, said there were other obvious benefits to making sure vehicles are in tip-top condition.

He explained: "Making tyre maintenance a key priority allows commercial fleet operators to help ensure the safety of their drivers and reduce the number of accidents."

Meanwhile, companies looking to keep costs down may find they can reduce their outgoings by searching for cheap van insurance online.
