Whether they have comprehensive or third party insurance, dads are spending an awful lot of time ferrying their children about, it has been claimed.

According to research by Motors.co.uk, the average father spends six months of his life taxiing his kids to school and various social events.

It also revealed by the time a child turns 18, they will typically have been chauffeured more than 56,000 miles by their old man – the equivalent of 266 trips between Paris and London.

Katie Armitage, marketing manager for the website that carried out the poll, suggested these men deserve to be pampered.

She said: "This Father's Day, Motors.co.uk is calling for all dads to have the day off to spend some quality time at home with their families - without a car in sight."

Meanwhile, dads struggling to secure cheap comprehensive car insurance because they cover a high number of miles each year may find some of the best deals are available online.
