09 June 2009 Hard-up drivers 'should not neglect their cars'
Motorists who have managed to secure budget comprehensive car insurance could throw away any savings made if they do not look after their vehicles properly, it has been suggested.Research by Kwik-Fit has revealed seven million drivers intend to cut back on servicing in a bid to reduce their running expenses.
However, the group warned this could well prove to be a false economy, as skipping a garage appointment could allow a small fault to develop into something more serious and expensive to put right.
The company also pointed out drivers who neglect basic maintenance could be increasing their chances of being involved in an accident, thereby jeopardising their cheap comprehensive car insurance.
Despite the fact people are looking at cutting back on servicing, Kwik-Fit's survey found 1.5 million motorists plan to spend an average of £80 on valeting in the coming 12 months.
Commenting on the findings, customer services director David White stated: "There's no point in having a gleaming car if it's on the road to nowhere."
