A new Highways Agency publication could help disabled drivers stay safe on the road and protect their cheap car insurance premiums.

The government department explained it was launching My Way to ensure it was catering for everyone who uses Britain's highways and byways.

Diversity manager Nicky Ensert explained: "To do this, we are actively working to understand the barriers that the trunk road network and our way of doing things may present for our disabled customers."

Available online, the guide was designed after the Highways Agency took on board the views of more than 370 motorists.

It offers advice on how to cope in an emergency, as well as tips on journey planning and details of the best road traffic news resources.

Taking the time to prepare for a trip could help all drivers reduce their chances of being involved in an accident.

In turn, this could help motorists protect their cheap car insurance cover.
