03 June 2009 Brits warned about inadvertently drink-driving
Motorists who have managed to build up an impressive no-claims bonus on their comprehensive car insurance may want to heed a new drink-drive warning if they do not want to be faced with significantly higher premiums in the future.AlcoSense has warned a lack of knowledge among British road users could mean some are at risk of getting behind the wheel with too much alcohol in their system.
It explained the majority of people underestimate the number of units in popular tipples.
The group suggested this might mean motorists are taking to the road while still over the limit the morning after a night out.
According to the company, as few as four glasses of wine or pints of strong lager could mean an individual is unfit to drive - even after a night's sleep.
Katie Shepherd, fundraising manager with road safety charity Brake, agreed with the comments made.
She said: "Most people don't even consider that after a night of moderate drinking they may still be over the limit to drive well into the next day."
Motorists who are caught breaking the law in this way could see their comprehensive car insurance premiums rise significantly.
