21 May 2009 Some car insurance claims 'could be avoided'
Motorists can reduce their chances of having to make a car insurance claim by taking simple precautions, it has been suggested.Police in Slough issued this statement following a number of thefts in the area.
They pointed out some 250 of the break-ins reported to them over the last three months could have been avoided if car owners had simply taken their property out of their autos when leaving them unattended.
Detective Inspector Nicky Hurdley said: "It is really frustrating to see that valuables are still being left in vehicles despite our repeated warnings."
People were advised that satnavs appear to be particularly attractive to car criminals.
Other items taken from vehicles in the area during recent months include 65 mobiles, 44 tools, 41 bags and 38 laptops.
Taking the time to remove valuables from an auto could save motorists money, as people who are forced to make a claim after a break-in could subsequently find it more difficult to secure cheap comprehensive car insurance.
