20 May 2009 Women 'choosing partners based on cars'
Men who have just passed their test and are thinking of buying an old banger and taking out third party car insurance in order to cut costs may be inspired to think again by a new poll.A survey by motors.co.uk found driving a rust bucket could spoil a person's chances with the ladies.
It revealed three times more females than males are concerned with the car a potential love-interest owns.
A third of the women questioned said they would turn a man down if his motor did not meet their expectations.
However, the study also suggested some people may not be particularly worried about what members of the opposite sex think of their vehicles - with one in fifty participants revealing they love their auto more than their partner.
Marketing manager Katie Armitage stated: "Our findings show how many drivers have a special place in their hearts for their motors."
In order to help drivers find their perfect vehicle match, the website has launched a car compatibility calculator.
Meanwhile, men who do not care if potential partners expect them to drive a brand new motor may find older autos only require third party cover.
