19 May 2009 Crashes 'should be investigated properly'
Motorists who have had to make a van insurance claim as the result of an accident may welcome calls for more thorough investigations of crashes. The Association of British Drivers (ABD) has suggested more emphasis should be placed on making sure lessons are learnt from collisions rather than simply trying to ascertain who was to blame.
It stated it has been urging the country's leaders to adopt a different attitude to road traffic accidents for many years, but predicted the government would fail to listen to its comments.
However, it stated the way crashes are dealt with at the moment is ineffective.
ABD chairman Brian Gregory said: "The current solution to any accident seems to be to reduce the speed limit and put up a camera."
He claimed this has led to the real causes of collisions being ignored.
If there was a significant reduction in road traffic accidents in the UK, more drivers may start to gain access to cheap van insurance.
