It pointed out its dealers would also be doing their bit by extending the scrappage scheme to people looking to trade in cars aged between eight and ten years old.

Paul Willcox, managing director of Nissan UK, stated: "In extending the £2,000 minimum trade-in against our British-built range to include eight to ten-year-old cars, Nissan has given the UK manufacturing industry a much-needed boost."
To take part in the government scheme, the vehicle participants trade in must have been registered a minimum of a decade ago.
