Buying a used car does not have to be a daunting process - although some women seem to think it is, an expert said this week.

Nicola Johnson, business manager for vehicle information specialist HPI, commented after the company found that most of the females it polled would place the onus on a car dealer rather than do the research themselves when looking to purchase.

She said while women tend to be aware of the possible pitfalls of buying a second-hand motor, they feel more vulnerable when doing so.

"It really isn't as daunting as it first appears," Ms Johnson added. "By completing an HPI Check female motorists can arm themselves with information and advice to help avoid any nasty surprises later down the line."

Women drivers who are looking for car insurance after they purchase a vehicle may find specialist quotes are available, because some providers offer specific cover for females.
