Drivers may want to start thinking about getting some van insurance quotes ahead of the launch of the scrappage scheme next week.

To take part in the initiative, people must have a vehicle that is at least ten years old which they are happy to dispose of.

In return, they will be offered £2,000 towards the cost of a brand new model.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has predicted the programme will have a positive effect on cars and van sales in the UK.

It suggested the introduction of the scheme has resulted in some optimism in the automotive sector.

Chief executive Paul Everitt said: "There has been a good response to the scheme ahead of the official start date and [the] industry is confident that this will be translated into additional orders."

The initiative gets underway on Monday May 18th.
