08 May 2009 Widow 'devastated by burglary'
A recent burglary in the Thames Valley area may remind householders to ensure all their valuables are covered under their home and contents insurance.Police reported a widow in Slough arrived back at her family abode after attending her husband's funeral to find the property had been broken into.
Officers said the victim was devastated, particularly as several pieces of jewellery - that had been bought as gifts by her late spouse - were among the items stolen.
A silver watch, a charm bracelet and an antique gold ring were a few of the things taken.
Commenting on the state of mind of the victim, Detective Constable Charlotte Taylor said: "She is understandably distraught and we hope that someone reading this will come forward and help police with their investigation."
Anyone in the area who has been approached by people in suspicious circumstances trying to sell them jewellery has been urged to contact the police.
Meanwhile, although home insurance cannot replace items of sentimental value, it can help to ensure householders do not suffer a financial loss in the event of a burglary.
