Increasing numbers of drivers may end up searching for van insurance after Fiat Professional voiced its support for the government's vehicle scrappage incentive scheme.

The manufacturer said it would be giving the programme its full backing, meaning now could be a great time for people to get rid of their old bangers and update to a brand new model.

Under the vehicle scrappage scheme, buyers will get at least £2,000 towards an up-to-date light commercial vehicle if they have a van over ten years old that they are prepared to get rid of.

People who take advantage of the offer could drive away in a Fiat Fiorino - the International Van of the Year 2009 - for £5,795.

Director with the manufacturer Gerry Clarke said: "I am sure this incentive will help encourage our customers to change to a new Fiat van."

Buyers keen to cut their costs further may find they can secure cheap van insurance online.
