05 May 2009 Northern Ireland Police crack down on rogue drivers
The bank holiday weekend saw police in Northern Ireland get "tough" with rogue drivers.Officers conducted a series of road safety operations in a bid to reduce the number of accidents.
The force explained traffic collisions are more common over bank holiday periods and it was keen to keep crashes to a minimum.
Chief Inspector Diane Pennington explained officers would do whatever was necessary to get the message across that motorists will not get away with breaking the law.
She stated: "The majority of deaths and serious injuries caused by road traffic collisions on our roads are preventable, so we make absolutely no apology for adopting a very tough approach to enforcement."
Officers were on the lookout for drivers committing a range of offences - from speeding to drink-driving.
People who receive a motoring conviction may subsequently find it harder to secure cheap comprehensive car insurance because such individuals are regarded as posing a higher risk.
