01 May 2009 RoSPA aims to reduce young driver accidents
Young drivers are now able to undertake an evaluation course that could help them reduce their likelihood of being involved in an accident. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has developed the appraisal to extend its road safety services.
According to the organisation, over 300 motorists who are newly-qualified together with their passengers are killed in car collisions every year.
Some may also face higher car premiums.
Therefore, the course is being offered to try and help those with less experience to know where their weak points are and what needs more work.
Rick Wood is head of training at RoSPA's driver and fleet solutions team. He is "confident" the evaluation will provide needed assistance.
"Our assessment is a great start in improving the current state of affairs for young drivers - the blunt fact is that many of them crash soon after passing their test," he said.
The issue of age as a factor in calculating insurance premiums was discussed this week by Malcolm Tarling from the Association of British Insurers.
He said age was definitely a relevant point to consider and providers must be able to use it.
