28 April 2009 VW vans on their way to British Gas

The vans are on their way to British Gas Another 5,300 Volkswagen (VW) Caddy vans are on their way to British Gas after the manufacturer won a contract to supply vehicles.

The vans will be used by engineers who travel around 12,000 miles each year. VW said the Caddies are expected to be with British Gas for about four years.

Chris Blue is national fleet manager for VW and said it was "proud" of the development.

General manager of Fleet at British Gas Colin Marriott added that the 1,000 Caddy vans already in use were the basis for ordering 5,300 more.

"Our decision to order more Volkswagens is based on our analysis of whole life costs, reliability and professional support available from the manufacturer," he explained.

The news came as it emerged E.ON had chosen the Fiat Grande Punto van for its meter-reading division.
