28 April 2009 72% 'lost without a car'
Almost three-quarters of drivers would be lost without their car, according to a new survey.Warranty Direct research discovered that 72 per cent of 3,000 motorists would struggle without their auto.
In addition, 53 per cent said they would have a hard time getting the cash together to pay for repairs if their vehicle needed them.
Duncan McClure Fisher from the company said this was "worrying" and advised people to have regular check-ups.
"In the short term you might save a bit of cash by not servicing your car, but eventually it is going to need work doing on it," he added.
Warranty Direct also published its findings on the most expensive car parts to repair.
Although the average cost to fix an auto transmission was the highest at £987.17, the most drivers should be prepared for is £5,297.70, which is how much an engine can set a consumer back.
Some car insurance policies have extra breakdown cover so it might be worth checking out these products if necessary.
