24 April 2009 Offer may see more motorists searching for Nissan cover
An initiative being run by Nissan may result in more motorists taking out comprehensivecar insurance policies for the manufacturer's models. The group expressed disappointment that the government's vehicle scrappage scheme will only be open to people with autos aged over ten years.
It suggested a lower minimum age limit would have been more successful.
As a result, Nissan has agreed to knock off at least £2,000 from the price of any of its new British-built models for people who hand over the keys of a vehicle aged between eight and ten years old.
Managing director Paul Willcox stated: "With Micra, Note, Qashqai and Qashqai+2 all produced in Sunderland this should ... be good news for all the staff at our plant and the British manufacturing industry as a whole."
Buyers who opt for the first of these models may find they make additional savings on their comprehensive car insurance.
Superminis like the Micra generally qualify for low-cost cover as a result of their small engines.
