Road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick The government has announced plans that could be good news for motorists keen to protect their cheap comprehensive car insurance premiums.

Road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick revealed the country's leaders intend to make the UK's highways and byways the safest in the world by 2020.

He explained it is hoped traffic fatalities will drop by a third in the next ten years.

The government revealed it intends to achieve these goals by introducing more 20 mph zones and possibly reducing speed limits on some of the more dangerous rural single carriageway routes.

In addition to this, learning and testing practices are set to be overhauled.

Mr Fitzpatrick stated: "The major changes to the driver training and testing process will create better prepared drivers, while our plans for the next ten years aim to make the roads and vehicles they use safer."

These changes may reduce a motorist's chances of being involved in a traffic accident, thereby helping them to protect their cheap comprehensive car insurance premiums.
