09 April 2009 Motorists 'should deal with problems immediately'

Motorists warned neglecting car maintenance could lead to a breakdown Drivers who do not want to end up relying on their breakdown cover need to deal with vehicle problems as soon as they arise, it has been claimed.

Mondial Assistance explained many of the call-outs it attends could have been avoided if motorists had carried out basic car maintenance.

It explained vehicle owners seem to be ignoring problems until they develop into something really serious and expensive repairs are required.

The group stated by dealing with faults as soon as they occur, drivers could save themselves time and money.

Lee Taylor, Mondial Assistance's automotive director, commented: "Motorists could reduce the number of breakdowns by sticking to some simple car care rules and more crucially, quickly addressing any problems which arise."

Vehicle owners were also warned failing to look after autos properly can invalidate roadside call-out cover and warranties.

Earlier this week, Protyre urged motorists to check their tyres before getting behind the wheel this Easter bank holiday.
