07 April 2009 Suspension problems 'more common up north'

Warranty Direct: Northern roads worse for potholes A motorist's chances of having to make a claim on their comprehensivecar insurance policy as a result of damaged suspension may depend on where they live, it has been suggested.

According to Warranty Direct, vehicle owners in Scotland and the north of England are much more likely to experience such problems.

It revealed in total UK drivers are shelling out about £1 million every day to pay for damage caused by potholed roads.

Of the ten worst areas for such problems, four were in the north of England and five were in Scotland.

Duncan McClure, managing director of Warranty Direct, said he was surprised by the distinct north-south divide.

He stated: "Whether this is due to colder weather causing more northern roads to crack or just poor road maintenance, it seems to underline a clear difference in the condition of highways across the country."

Motorists whose vehicle suspension is damaged by uneven road surfaces may be at a higher risk of being involved in an accident and having to make a claim on their comprehensive car insurance.
