02 April 2009 Following advice could prevent a van insurance claim
Drivers in Oxford keen to avoid a claim on their van insurance may do well to listen to advice from police in the area.Officers warned a number of cars and light commercial vehicles have been targeted over recent days.
They added it is vital for motorists to remove valuables when leaving autos unattended if they want to reduce their chances of becoming a victim.
Detective Sergeant Matt Jarman stated: "Most ... [of these] criminals are opportunists and are unlikely to break into an empty vehicle."
Items stolen during the recent incidents include a disabled badge, laptop, stereo, satnav and hair straighteners.
Motorists were advised parking in well lit areas was another way they could reduce their chances of being targeted.
Drivers who follow this advice and manage to avoid a van insurance claim may find they qualify for cheaper cover when the time comes for them to renew their policy.
