31 March 2009 Satnavs leading some motorists into sticky situations
Although some drivers swear by their satnavs, a recent survey has suggested the technology may be more likely to lead you to a car insurance claim rather than the correct destination. The poll by motoring.co.uk highlighted some of the sticky situations road users have found themselves in after faithfully following the directions of their device.
One driver revealed they had received four penalty points on their licence after their satnav instructed them to enter a ring road the wrong way and another individual ended up having to reverse for more than a mile after getting stuck up a single-lane track.
The study also found men seem to have more difficulties than women with the gadgets, with 30 per cent revealing they have got completely lost using such a device compared with 20 per cent of female motorists.
Drivers keen to avoid an accident and subsequent comprehensive car insurance claim may be well advised to plan journeys in advance rather than relying solely on satnavs.
