31 March 2009 Tracking device 'could reduce car insurance costs'

Tracker: Classic cars are particularly vulnerable to thieves Motorists with antique autos who want to protect their vehicles from thieves and reduce their comprehensive classic car insurance premiums may want to follow the advice of an auto recovery firm.

Tracker has suggested it is particularly important for people with vintage models to be security conscious.

It explained criminals often target this kind of vehicle as they are not generally equipped with the same anti-theft devices as more modern cars and can be sold for significant amounts of money.

The group explained tracking devices are a good idea in classic motors because such models are often worth more as parts and this type of security feature gives the police a chance of recovering autos before they are broken up.

Geoff Taylor, a former police officer, pointed out: "There is also the added advantage of a possible reduction in insurance premiums, good news for any collector as costs and maintenance can easily escalate."

According to recent figures from Tracker, it helped police recover in excess of £400 million worth of vehicles in 2008.
