31 March 2009 Third party insurance customers 'should choose tyres carefully'
Drivers with third party car insurance who appreciate that skidding on wet surfaces could prove costly may do well to heed advice from Autocar magazine. The publication has suggested choice of tyre is crucial when it comes to road safety and warned opting for the cheapest products on offer could be a false economy.
It made these comments after testing five budget brands - the Wanli, GT Radial, Linglong, Nankang and Triangle - against a premium product from Continental's range.
The more costly product performed significantly better, coming out top in all but one assessment.
Senior tester with the magazine Jamie Corstorphine stated: "Having seen how the five cut-price tyres in this test perform, we're in no doubt that quality pays dividends."
Motorists with third party car insurance who have an accident as the result of poor grip in wet conditions may well find themselves out of pocket, as such vehicle owners generally have to cover the cost of any damage to their own autos.
