Car insurance customers looking to trade in their current model for one that is kinder to the planet may find Peugeot has what they are searching for.

Figures from the manufacturer have revealed the company was the number one choice for motorists looking for green vehicles last year.

During 2008, of all the cars sold in Europe offering CO2 emissions of up to 120 g/km, one in every six was a Peugeot.

The company explained it is keen to do all it can to minimise the impact its vehicles have on the environment.

It pointed out it offers 36 cars that emit under 121 g/km of CO2.

Marketing director Christian Stein said: "We are delighted to be comprehensively leading the green race, with the benefit of lower running costs for our customers."

In other news from the manufacturer, it recently revealed its 308 CC model is due to go on sale in the UK during June.
