26 March 2009 Diesel owners urged to be careful at the pump

Motorists urged to choose fuel carefully Motorists with diesel vehicles who like to keep their engines in peak condition in a bid to reduce their chances of being involved an accident and having to make a van insurance claim may want to choose their fuel carefully.

A study by Clean Green Cars revealed there are concerns over the safety of B30 - a high-blend biodiesel sold at Morrisons' garages.

The consumer group said the fuel had not received universal approval from carmakers, as it contains a maximum of 30 per cent biomass compared to the five per cent in traditional diesel.

Some manufacturers have warned that customers who use B30 will invalidate their warranties because there are concerns it could damage vehicles' internal workings.

Jay Nagley publisher of Clean Green Cars commented: "Our investigation shows that while some carmakers say yes to B30, most remain concerned over the long-term effects on sensitive engine components."

Taking vehicles for regular servicing is another way to keep them in tip-top condition and it may reduce a driver's chances of being involved in an accident, thereby helping to protect their cheap van insurance premiums.
