25 March 2009 Van drivers 'should check their tyres'
Drivers keen to protect the no-claims bonus on their van insurance policy would be well advised to check their tyres on a regular basis, it has been suggested.According to research by Continental Tyres up to 3.5 million road users may be putting themselves and others in danger by neglecting these important vehicle parts.
The company conducted a poll of 4,000 motorists and it was discovered ten per cent had insufficient tyre tread.
A further 40 per cent admitted they had no idea of how to tell if tyres were roadworthy or not.
Despite this, the majority of those questioned did seem to be aware of how important good grip was, especially in the wet.
Commenting on the findings, Tim Bailey from Continental said: "People just don't think about it enough or they don't know what to look for."
Light commercial vehicle drivers may find regular tyre checks are a good way of helping to protect their cheap van insurance premiums.
