24 March 2009 Van insurance customers urged not to be dipsticks

Comma launches National Oil Check Week 2009 Drivers who want to keep their vehicles in tip-top condition in a bid to avoid van insurance claims may want to start paying more attention to their engines, it has been suggested.

Comma, an auto care company, said Brits are risking having to pay up to £300 million a year on fixing problems under the bonnet because they are not checking their oil on a regular basis.

It explained damage caused by a lack of lubrication can result in a repair bill of thousands of pounds.

The firm said using a dipstick to check oil levels in a simple procedure that takes a matter of minutes.

In order to highlight the importance of the task, the group is launching National Oil Check Week, which will take place from June 15th to 19th.

The initiative has already received the support of Mobil 1 and Halfords.

Keeping a vehicle in peak condition may result in it reacting better in emergency situations, helping drivers protect their cheap van insurance premiums.
