23 March 2009 Pothole website could prevent van insurance claims
Motorists who have had to make a van insurance claim as the result of damage caused by poorly-maintained roads may welcome the re-launch of a campaign website.Potholes.co.uk aims to give drivers the opportunity to warn other road users about particularly troublesome routes and offers advice on how to claim compensation from local councils.
In addition to this, the online resource - which was created by Warranty Direct - includes a forum that allows vehicle owners to share stories.
Spokesperson Duncan McClure Fisher explained potholes can cause significant damage to springs, shock absorbers, stabiliser bars and upper and lower arms.
He commented: "With a £1 billion shortfall in the government's road maintenance funds, Warranty Direct has long believed that the motorist shouldn't be stumping up for the damage done by poorly-maintained roads."
Light commercial vehicle drivers who manage to avoid roads with lots of potholes may reduce their chances of having to make van insurance claims.
