19 March 2009 Car insurance providers 'should be advised of trips abroad'

Comprehensive insurance may to be downgraded to third party in France Drivers who are considering a motoring holiday in France this Easter have been reminded to inform their car insurance provider before heading off.

Confused.com explained vehicle owners will not necessarily have the same level of cover across the Channel as they have at home.

Motorists may find comprehensive insurance becomes third party once they leave the UK.

However, Confused.com pointed out drivers can usually remedy this by paying their provider an additional fee.

It stated: "Informing insurance providers of any planned trips will lead to customers getting the best guidelines on what to do if the worst happens."

Motorists were also advised to make sure they were familiar with the rules of the road in France.

Confused.com warned them that the drink-drive limit is lower and it is a legal requirement to carry a warning triangle and a high-visibility vest in all vehicles.

Meanwhile, previous research from the price comparison website suggested some people called James may struggle to find cheap car insurance as motorists with this name are most likely to have driving convictions.
