17 March 2009 Drivers urged to be careful outside schools
Mums who pick up their kids everyday may find a claim on their specialist female car insurance could be the least of their worries if they have a crash outside school. Police in Wakefield have launched a campaign to highlight the dangers of committing driving offences when there are lots of children about.
As part of the initiative, pupils from St James' School in Crigglestone will don mini uniforms and take to the streets with officers to hand out information leaflets to motorists.
Inspector Helen Brear pointed out at 15:15 GMT everyday children leave schools and have to cross the road.
She stated: "By parking on the paths or in the designated keep clear areas, these parents are forcing children and other parents to step out into the road between parked cars."
Mums looking to renew their cover in the coming months may find they can get a good deal on specialist female car insurance, as women are generally considered to be a lower risk than their male counterparts.
