12 March 2009 Toyota invention may impress safety-conscious motorists

Created to protect occupants in the event of a side-on collision, the device is expected to start featuring in some the company's models in the near future.
The Supplemental Restraint System acts as a barrier between passengers so that they are not thrown together during a crash.
According to Toyota, this is just one of the protective designs it has been working on.
It explained the group "continues to develop and make available its safety technologies to enable its vehicles to better respond to a wider range of accidents".
