06 March 2009 Car insurance costs may go up for speeding drivers

Police have said they will continue to target speeding motorists A number of motorists in west Berkshire may find it harder to secure cheap comprehensive car insurance in the future, after they were caught speeding by the police.

Officers from the Thames Valley force pulled over more than 20 motorists who were travelling too quickly on Tidmarsh Road in Pangbourne and Halls Road in Telehurst.

Police targeted these areas in particular as a result of concerns raised by the local communities.

The majority of the motorists caught breaking the speed limit received three points on their licences and £60 fines.

However, some were offered the option of roadside education or a speed awareness course.

A driver who was discovered not to have a licence, MOT certificate or car insurance had his vehicle seized and will have to appear in court.

PC Weal from Thames Valley police commented: "We will continue enforcement and education operations across the area until people understand that speeding is unacceptable on our roads."
