04 March 2009 Green car insurance customers may be tempted by new Vauxhall
People who could see themselves taking out car insurance for an electric vehicle in the next few years may want to check out the latest offering from Vauxhall. The Ampera is due to be launched in the UK in 2012.
Carl-Peter Forster, president of General Motors in Europe, said the model highlights just how advanced Vauxhall is when it comes to eco-friendly motoring.
The car can cover around 40 miles relying purely on its battery, after that point the on-board generator kicks in and this extends the vehicle's range to more than 300 miles.
When the Ampera needs recharging, motorists can use any standard 240V outlet.
Mr Forster said: "It's ground-breaking Voltec electric propulsion system is the kind of game-changing technology the automotive industry needs to respond to energy and environmental challenges."
In other news, a study by Vauxhall recently revealed 19 per cent of single Brits have been on a date - or conducted a relationship with someone - more than 150 miles away.
