03 March 2009 Fiat 'is working hard to cut emissions'

Fiat 500 Start&Stop Car insurance customers keen to reduce their impact on the environment may want to consider a Fiat model when the time comes for them to trade in their current vehicle.

Data from motoring research firm Jato has revealed of all the motors sold in 2008, those made by the Italian manufacturer boasted the lowest average CO2 emissions - at 133.7 g/km.

The company also achieved this feat in 2007.

Lorenzo Sistino, the group's managing director, said Fiat had worked hard on its green credentials and intended to do so in the future.

"Our aim is to reinforce our European record in emissions reduction by introducing new engines, new technologies and new applications," he explained.

Some recent environmentally-friendly innovations from Fiat include its Start&Stop system and its eco:Drive software.

The first turns the engine off in heavy traffic to reduce fuel consumption, while the second analyses a motorist's style behind the wheel and offers advice on how that person can drive in a more economical manner.
