02 March 2009 Third party insurance holders may welcome police crackdown
People with third party insurance who appreciate how costly an accident can be may welcome a crackdown on motoring offences by Tayside police. The force recently undertook a 24-hour campaign aimed at tackling speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt and the use of mobile phones while at the wheel.
Chief Inspector Sandy Bowman pointed out previous initiatives across Scotland have helped to cut the number of road accidents in the country.
He stated: "The plain facts are that if you speed or don't wear a seatbelt, you are far more likely to be seriously injured or killed if you are involved in a collision."
Motorists were also reminded people who use a mobile phone when driving can struggle to maintain concentration and full control of their vehicle.
Drivers caught talking or texting on a handset face three penalty points and a £60 fine.
In other news, parents across Tayside were recently encouraged to attend sessions to ensure their child seats were fitted correctly.
