27 February 2009 Van insurance customers 'need more help to go green'

Stuff2Send.com: Right Van Man could have done more for white van man A guide written to help van insurance customers reduce their carbon footprint does not go far enough, it has been claimed.

According to Stuff2Send.com, the Right Van Man is useful to an extent as it highlights the most environmentally-friendly vehicles on the market.

However, it stated the authors have missed a trick by failing to discuss how drivers can cut down on wasted journeys.

The website pointed out for a significant proportion of the time they are on the road, many vehicles are empty.

Founder Colin Hay said: "This represents a huge drain on resources for couriers, particularly those travelling long distances, but is also creates unnecessary emissions."

Stuff2Send.com is a company that arranges for parcels to be delivered by drivers who are already heading in the right direction.

Some 500 couriers joined the service within a month of it being set up.

Right Van Man was compiled by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the Department for Transport and the vehicle type approval authority VCA.
