25 February 2009 Firms 'could help reduce van insurance claims'
Businesses could make a significant difference to the number of van insurance claims made in the UK, it has been suggested.According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (Rospa), companies need to start making the reduction of road traffic collisions among their employees a key health and safety target.
It highlighted figures that estimate between a quarter and a third of all crashes involve someone driving for work.
This means 200 road users are killed or seriously injured each week in the UK as the result of employment-related accidents.
Rospa's occupational safety advisor Roger Bibbings said: "Being killed or injured while driving as part of one's job is the biggest risk faced by most workers."
The group is currently discussing what can be done to reduce work-related accidents at its 74th Road Safety Congress in Blackpool.
Companies who reduce the number of accidents their drivers are involved in may end up making significant savings on van insurance.
