Car insurance customers who appreciate the vehicle they are driving can make all the difference in the event of an accident may want to take a look at the Toyota iQ.

The diminutive model has scooped a maximum five-star rating in the latest round of Euro Ncap safety tests.

All the vehicles tested now receive one overall score, rather than separate marks in each category.

Euro Ncap introduced this change to ensure manufacturers started concentrating on improving all aspects of car safety.

The iQ's five-star rating takes into account how well protected adult occupants, child passengers and pedestrians would be in a crash.

Commenting on the model's score, Toyota said: "Despite its compact urban-friendly dimensions, the iQ makes no compromise in the fields of active and passive safety."

The manufacturer's Avensis also drove away with a maximum rating.

Meanwhile, the manufacturer recently claimed buyers who opt for the updated Yaris will find it offers improved performance and more impressive green credentials.
