18 February 2009 Car buyers urged to be cautious
People buying vehicles from private dealers need to be cautious if they do not want to jeopardise their cheap car insurance premiums, it has been suggested.According to motor information company HPI, there are great deals to be had but drivers need to take care to avoid being ripped off or landed with a dangerous set of wheels.
It urged buyers to do their research in order to make sure the price they are being quoted is a fair one.
The company also suggested getting a professional mechanic to check cars out before signing on the dotted line.
In addition to this, people were reminded to ask for a receipt for any deposit.
HPI added it could conduct checks for buyers to make sure a vehicle did not have a dodgy history.
Previously, the firm said it is currently a buyers' market - with great deals available on used cars.
However, it warned prices are gradually creeping back up.
